- I have a quite complicate problem, so excuse me for the lenght of this
- post, but I want to be as exaustive as possible in its description.
-
- My system consists of:
- - Amiga 500 rev.5 (originally with kick 1.2)
- - A501 expansion memory in the trapdoor configured as chip mem
- by 8375 agnus.
- - 2.04 ROM
- - Hardital Big Bang accelerating board in the 68000 socket
- with 68030/882 overclocked at 33 MHz(originally 25 MHz)
- and 4 or 8 on board 32 bit memory (this can be autoconfig
- in the $200000-$9fffff range, or non autoconfig and added
- later in the $1200000-$19fffff range).
- With a switch I can jump back to 68000 mode and keep the
- autoconfig memory ( obviously as 16 bit RAM).
- - Hardital Synthesis SCSI controller (not DMA) in the 86 pin
- expansion slot with 80 MB and 170 MB Quantum harddisks.
- - Picasso II graphic board in a self made 100 pin Zorro 2 slot
- (No, it's not a joke !).
- If the Picasso works in "non-segmented" mode, it maps its memory
- in the $200000-$9fffff range so I can have only 4 MB of
- autoconfig memory on the Big Bang; if the Picasso works in
- "segmented" mode I can have 8 MB of autoconfig memory on the
- Big Bang, but the Picasso is very slower (~ 50 times).

- PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
-
- Configuration 1: Big Bang in 68030 33 MHz mode with 4 MB autoconfig mem,
- Picasso II, SCSI controller:
-
- 1- I switch on the power supply or
- I reset (CTRL- AMIGA- AMIGA) the machine
- 2- the reset sequence stops at the first gray tone
- 3- I reset again some times and the reset sequence starts and then
- stops at the first gray tone.
- 4- After an average of 3 reset actions, the situation unblocks:
- 5- the Power led flashes (as a guru, but I get no alert) and
- during the led flashing the sceen is yellow.
- After this "guru sequence"the computer has a spontaneous regular
- reset (4 gray tones) and start to boot.
- 6- Appears the WB and everything is OK and works fine.
- If I reset the machine I get the same sequence starting from step 1.
-
- Configuration 2: Big Bang in 68030 33 Mhz mode with 4 or 8 MB of
- NON-Autoconfig memory, Picasso II, SCSI controller.
-
- - The reset and boot sequence is correct but I have only the Chip
- ram (obvious).
- - If I try to "Addmem" the ram on the Big Bang in the WB or in the
- startup-sequence, the system blocks.
- - if then I reset the machine I get the yellow screen and the flashing
- power led and then a normal reset and boot as above (and with
- the chip ram only).
-
- Configuration 3: Big Bang in 68000 mode with 4 MB autoconfig mem, Picasso II
- SCSI controller.
-
- - No problem whatsoever !!!!
- - No "guru sequence" !!!!
- - No interrupted reset sequence !!!!
-
- Configuration 4: Big Bang in 68030 25MHz mode (original speed !), 4 MB auto
- config mem, Picasso II, SCSI controller.
-
- 1- I switch on the power supply or
- reset the machine
- 2- the reset sequence stops at the first gray tone.
- 3- I reset again and the reset sequence always stops at the first
- gray tone (I can't obtain the yellow screen and flashing led
- which unblocks the situation !)
-
- Configuration 5: Big Bang 25 or 33 MHz with 4 or 8 MB (autoconfig or not),
- SCSI controller (NO Picasso II)
-
- - It works everything fine. I can "addmem" later the non-auto
- config memory.
-
-
- Sysinfo tells me that the 4 MB of autoconfig memory are in the $200000-
- $5fffff range and the 2 MB of the Picasso mem is in the $600000-$7fffff
- range.
- I think it's a problem of timing in the reset sequence (a Firecracker 24
- framebuffer gives me no problem), which appears only in 68030 mode ( the
- reset sequence is faster); maybe should I delay the _RST signal to the
- Picasso ?!?
- Note that in the self made slot I used the 68000 _RST signal (pin #53 of
- the expansion bus) as _BUSRST signal (pin #94 of Zorro 2 slot).
-
- My best configuration would be:
- Big Bang 68030 33 MHz, 8 MB non autoconfig memory (added during the
- boot), Picasso II in "non segmented" mode, SCSI controller.
-
- Thank you for your attention (and patience reading this !!) and help.
- If you need more infos, tell it to me.
- Please reply via e-mail to ray@maya.dei.unipd.it
- Ciao
- Gabriele
